RADCLIFFE SOS

Walk

Shake a leg - spring is here and there's just weeks now to celebrate a modernist gem before it is torn down. Radcliffe Civic Suite will be demolished by end of April as "it isn't used enough" and the site will be redeveloped for housing.

The Civic Suite was praised by Pevsner and it is a 1974 design by John Sheard of Cruickshank & Seward.

But there's more to Radcliffe than the Civic Suite, we'll also be taking in the Art Deco office block fronting a former engineering works at the top of Bridgefield Street, the 1968 St Thomas Estate, also by Sheard -  with Wilson & Womersley and the swimming pool of 1968 by William Gower.

We have special access to the Civic Suite - hence the early start, and your illustrious guides for the day will be Rob Trueblood and Richard Brook.
