ONE HUNDRED VIEWS OF THE ARTS TOWER

Sheffield's original high rise, the Arts Tower is a landmark on the local landscape, its elegance admired for miles around and its ever-presence on the skyline acting as a handy navigation tool.

One Hundred Views of the Arts Tower brings together a hundred artworks – photos, embroidery, painting, ceramics, oral history, film and more – shared through an open call, and delves into the University of Sheffield Archive. It's inspired by One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji, a collection of woodblock prints by 19th-century Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai, which captured the awe-inspiring peak that dominates the landscape around Tokyo from various perspectives and distances.

The exhibition is an extension of Sheffield Modern, an architecture festival organised by Our Favourite Places. The festival's 2018 highlight was a live concert in the Arts Tower's paternoster, a lift made up of 38 carriages that endlessly move between the building's 20 floors.

The Western Bank Library Exhibition Gallery is open Monday-Thursday 9am-7pm, Friday 10am-7pm, Saturday 12pm-6pm.
