How do you launch your own publication and succeed as an independent publisher?

In the first of what we hope will become a regular season of indie magazine based events The Modernist Magazine will be talking to North West Magazine makers about why and how they produce, print and publish their magazines.

Join invited magazine makers from Manchester and Liverpool for an evening at Modernist Mag HQ during which we hope to answer some crucial questions about publishing an independent magazine.

Date: Wednesday 10th July 6pm-8pm

Tickets : £8.00 full / £6.00 concs and modernist subscribers

Venue: The Modernist, 58 Port Street, Manchester M1 2EQ

Experienced publishers will cover issues such as content gathering, design, pricing, funding, printing and distribution.

  • How to get into publishing?

  • How is a magazine funded and financed?

  • How is it distributed and to who?

  • How many can you sell?

  • How to source your designers and printers?

  • Does anybody get paid?

Jacqui McAssey - Girlfans

GIRLFANS is a project intended to give female football supporters visibility and a sense of belonging in football culture. Since 2013 Jacqui has used photography and the traditional football fanzine as its platform, documenting the diverse fans of the English and Scottish Premier Leagues and the English Football League.

Neil Summers - Proper

Proper is a content and marketing agency based in Manchester, UK. Born out of a passion for fashion and culture, it began as a fanzine, grew into a magazine and continues to evolve today. We work with brands we love.

Lucy Chesters - Ethos

Ethos is a magazine for and about people who embrace new and innovative ways of doing business. We cover stories about the most progressive business leaders, their teams, ethos and ideas to give you a unique insight into how they’re changing how business is done.

George - Siege

Based in Manchester but representing artists from all over the world; SIEGE is a new, glaringly obvious, platform for emerging artists to showcase their work amongst a plethora of other like minded creatives.
