Leeds Arts University Project

We are delighted to be working with the Graphic Design course at Leeds Arts University, supporting their first year students’ typographic project!

The project asks students to design a set of typefaces in response to a twentieth century building in Leeds. Leeds Modernist led tours of Bank House, Yorkshire Bank HQ, Leeds Magistrates Court, Headingley St Columba, Roger Stevens Building, Priestley Building and E C Stoner Building. It was an incredible opportunity to experience the interiors of these iconic Leeds buildings, share our knowledge, and learn about their unknown histories and unusual intricacies from the building managers. The students were tasked with capturing images of their chosen building, check out #leedsmodernisttype to see some of them!

We want to extend a huge thank you to the building owners and managers for accommodating the project and to the lovely LAU tutors for inviting us to be involved. We can’t wait to see how the students reference and embody the buildings in their typographic responses!
